Camilla Mendes (Riverdale) will play Teela in Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films’ live-action film adaptation The Masters of the Universe.
Mendes joins Nicolas Galitzinewhich will talk about the role of He-Man. Teela is a warrior who, as Captain of the Royal Guard of Eternia, is responsible for protecting the royal family, especially Prince Adam, also known as He-Man.
With this casting, it looks like we’re going to get a CW version of Masters of the Universe. I really want to be excited for this movie, especially with Knight Travis the direction, but the casting doesn’t convince me.
Knight, who previously directed films such as Bumblebee and Kubo and the Two Strings, directs from a script written by Chris Butler. David Callaham and Aaron and Adam Nee worked on the initial draft.
In The Masters of the Universe“10-year-old Prince Adam, who crash-landed on Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Sword of Power, his only connection to his home on Eternia.
“After tracking him down nearly two decades later, Prince Adam is catapulted into space to defend his home planet from Skeletor’s evil forces.
“But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam must first uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe!”
I would love nothing more than for Knight to make a He-Man epic, but the story and cast worry me. I hope Knight proves me wrong.
The Masters of the Universe is produced by Escape Artists and Mattel Films and will be released exclusively in theaters worldwide on June 5, 2026.
