Edgar Wright’s THE RUNNING MAN is reportedly looking for Katy O’Brian

Katy O’Brian (The Mandalorian, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Love Lies Bleeding) is reportedly looking to be cast in Edgar Wright’s film adaptation of Stephen King’S The Running Man.

The Running Man is moving forward with Mr. Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick, Twisters) in the lead role of Ben Richards, and Sydney’s World she was also considered for the role of the female lead.

Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman said he had heard that O’Brian was also in the running for an undisclosed supporting role.

There are no details on who she might play, but there are two major female characters in the book: Richards’ wife, Shelia, and his hostage, Amelia.

The Running Man is a dystopian story set in a future society where the government controls everything; the story follows Ben Richards, a desperate and poor man who participates in a deadly TV quiz called “The Running Man” to win money for his family.

The game features Richards being hunted by professional killers as he tries to evade capture for a month. As he moves through a decaying and dangerous cityscape, Richards becomes a symbol of resistance against the oppressive government.

Powell previously spoke about the project saying, “I’ve been a fan of Edgar Wright all my life. And talking to him about Running Manwhat was really amazing was his approach. It’s not the original Schwarzenegger film at all, it’s much more anchored to the Stephen King version (short novel).

“While I like the original 1987 film, it is very different from the story that King wrote, so I’m really excited that Wright’s film will be much closer to the source material.”

Wright has previously spoken about his vision for the film and how he wants it to be a true adaptation of the book, saying, “I think nowadays, even in terms of, you know, I think when remakes are done well it’s whether there’s something else that’s added or there’s a different interpretation.

He continued: “So I think the problem is that lately remakes are just kind of facsimiles of the original film and I’m not very excited about them because they feel like kind of karaoke versions of the originals.”

Wright added: “Obviously in the ’70s and ’80s there were some where they were additives like by Philip Kauffman Invasion of the Body Snatchers OR by John Carpenter The thing OR by David Cronenberg The fly; means to take something and do something interesting with it.’“

He goes on to talk specifically about his vision for this, saying, “In terms of things that I’ve done, like, you know, The Running Man which is something that’s actively in development. Why is that interesting to me? I like the movie but I like the book more and they haven’t really adapted the book.”

She said: “When I was a teenager, when I saw the Schwarzenegger movie, I thought, ‘Oh, this is nothing like the book at all,’ and I don’t think anyone has adapted that book.

“So when this came up I thought, you know, and Simon Kinberg says, ‘Do you have any interest in The Running Man?’ I said, ‘You know what I’ve often thought, that book is something that’s crying out to be adapted.’ Now, that doesn’t mean it’s easy, but it’s something we’re working on, yes, I will say that.”

I think Wright will end up turning this story into a fantastic movie!
