James Wan is developing a CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON film for Universal Pictures

James Wan (The Summoning, Insidious) is developing a new The Creature from the Black Lagoon film for Universal Pictures as a producer, but is currently in talks to direct the film as well.

Wan is explained as developing “a modern, grounded reimagining that leans toward visceral horror while still paying homage to the original classic.”

Wan is at his best when directing horror films, and it will be interesting to see what his vision for The Creature From The Black Lagoon is. I hope he delivers something great!

Creature from the Black Lagoon was released in 1954 and the original story follows a group of scientists who discover a prehistoric, amphibious humanoid creature in the Amazon jungle.

While exploring a remote lagoon, the team, led by Dr. David Reed, becomes fascinated by the creature, nicknamed Gill-man. As they try to capture and study it, the creature becomes aggressive, feeling threatened by intruders in its territory.

The film is a suspenseful tale of man versus nature, showcasing the eerie atmosphere of the jungle and the fear of the unknown as scientists fight for survival against the creature’s wrath.

I love the original film and here Wan has the opportunity to do something really beautiful by retelling this story.

Wan is producing the film under his Atomic Monster banner, with Atomic Monster’s Michael Clear and Judson Scott serving as executive producers.

Do you think Wan will do a great job? The Creature from the Black Lagoon movie?
