During Marvel Animation’s D23 presentation this weekend, a new clip was shared for What if…? and goes full throttle Voltron! It was also revealed that the series will conclude with the third season and that three new characters will be coming to the show.
Previously, Marvel shared an image of Captain America’s mech suit. Well, in the clip shown at the presentation, all the Avengers are wearing mech suits and have joined together to form one giant mech robot!
The film begins with a retro Avengers video featuring the Avengers and a story unfolds that leads to the Hulk unleashing giant Kaju-like monsters on Earth.
The footage then cuts to the present day Avengers in their Mech suits battling giant monsters. As they do so, they band together to form a giant mech robot to take down the creatures.
Imagine any action sequence from Voltron where the team is fighting a bad guy and has to come together to finish the bad guy off once and for all. That’s what this footage was, and it was hilarious!
Talking about the series at the event, What if…?Brian Andrews said: “Watching Season 1 and 2, what you learn is how much the fans love these characters and these stories. It gave us a lot of fuel.
He goes on to say that they are trying to take big swings and play around with different genres: “We’ve learned that we can take big swings. The wilder and crazier the What If…? gets, the better the response. We really play with the shots. A little bit of Western stuff, a little bit of sweeping robot stuff.”
As for the new characters joining this final season, among them are Shang-Chi, Moon Knight, Ironheart, and White Vision.
I assume Oscar Isaac (Moon Knight), Dominique Thorne (Heart of Iron), and Simu Liu (Shang-Chi) will return to voice their characters.
