From the initial planning stages 3rd part to the final product we saw in Deadpool and WolverineThere were a lot of ideas and scenes that didn’t make it into the final cut. There were so many comic book stories and Easter eggs to work with that, to put it mildly, not everything would have fit, and fans are curious about some of them.
When asked by X if the film’s creators had ever considered a “fastball special,” Reynolds did indeed confirm that one was shot, but that it wasn’t selected.
For context, this is a famous tag team move in superhero fiction where a super-strong hero literally throws a teammate at a target. The maneuver first appeared in The X-Men #100, when Wolverine had Colossus throw him into battle. It quickly became a favorite tactic for the two heroes, and was also practiced by other characters.
Reynolds shared the deleted scene in a short clip, with the note: “Some people have asked if we were tempted to try a ‘Fastball Special.’ The answer is yes. Only instead of casting Deadpool or Wolvie, we cast this guy… he didn’t make it, sadly. #FastBallSpecial @RealHughJackman
