My First Encounter with Channing TatumThe gambit of Deadpool and Wolverine He was hilarious and I can only imagine how hard it was for the actors working with him not to burst out laughing during filming.
Gambit’s jokes and thick Cajun accent were incredible and fans couldn’t get enough of them. But the X-23 actress Daphne Acute I had had enough because it was really hard to get past the scenes where Tatum was so damn funny.
In an interview with CB, Keen talked about playing Tatum and how he constantly made her laugh on set.
Keen said: “I had to tell him that, in my attempt, he couldn’t say his lines. I kept going out of character because I was doing my dark Wolverine vibe.
“I was like, ‘Yeah, let’s fucking go.’ And then he was like, ‘I was putting my nut in my butter…’ ‘No, shut up. I have to do my job here. You’re making it so hard.'”
She continues to praise him, though, saying, “But he’s so good. Even the lineup where he’s like, ‘I’m going to make a name for myself.’ I was like, ‘No.’ Again, I’m calm and collected and this guy is like barking in my ear.
“It’s also, it’s right in front of me and it’s a frontal shot. You can probably see it somewhere, [me] dying.”
It must have been quite a surprise for the cast and crew, as Tatum finally managed to bring Gambit to life after years of trying.
Tatum has previously spoken about his involvement in the film, saying, “These photos are almost 10 years to the day. I was sitting in the audience when Ryan showed the world his first look at Deadpool 1 and I think I ran backstage afterwards and found him and I think I hugged him and was like, holy shit, you did it, man. This is perfect.
“I didn’t know him at all then. But since then I can say that there’s almost no one who has supported me in this industry more than Ryan. I thought I had lost Gambit forever. But he fought for me and for Gambit. I will probably be in his debt forever. Because I’m not sure how I could ever do anything that would match what this has meant to me.
“I love you friend. by Shawn Levi also. Truly such a brilliant creator on every single level. Everything happens for a reason. I am so grateful to be in this movie. It is a masterpiece in my opinion. And just pure badass joy. I was literally screaming in the theater. LFG!!”
I know we’ll probably never see Tatum as Gambit again, but it’s awesome that the actor finally got the chance to play that character and that he did it in such an incredibly fun way!
