HOUSE OF THE DRAGON Showrunner Says Series Will End With Season 4, Teases Battle of the Gorge

HBO has revealed that its game of Thrones spin-off series House of the Dragon will come to an end with the fourth season.

During a press conference discussing the season two finale of House of the Dragonshowrunner and co-creator Ryan Condal announced that there are only two seasons left.

Condal also confirmed that the third season of the series is currently in the writing stage and will begin filming in early 2025.

Condal said, “I haven’t had any discussions with HBO about it. I just expect the cadence of the show, from a dramatic storytelling perspective, to continue to be the same from season two onwards.”

Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin, who co-created House of the Dragonhad previously stated on his blog that four seasons of 10 episodes each would be needed to tell the series, and now that has been confirmed.

When talking about the season 2 finale and where the series is heading with the Battle of the Esophagus.

Condal said: “We were trying to give Gullet, which is probably the most anticipated (well, I would say maybe the second most anticipated) action event in ‘Fire & Blood,’ trying to give it the time and space that it deserves.

“Obviously, as anyone who’s seen the finale will know, we’re building to that event. That event is going to happen very soon in terms of the narrative of ‘House of the Dragon.’

He added: “Based on what we know now, it should be the biggest thing we’ve done so far, and we just wanted to have the time, the space to do it on a level that will excite and satisfy the fans and in the way that it deserves.”

They’re trying to build anticipation for the event, which is why season 2 didn’t end with the Battle of the Esophagus.

Condal said, “I know everyone wants it to come out every summer. It’s just that the show is so complex that we’re really making multiple feature films every season.

“So I apologize for the wait, but I’ll just say that if Rook’s Rest and Red Sowing are any indication, we’re going to get an incredible win with Battle the Gullet in the future.”

Game of Thrones fans can expect some exciting story elements, and it looks like season three will focus on the Battle of Gullet, the bloodiest naval battle in Westeros history.
