Stephen King’s THE LONG WALK Film Adaptation Will Be ‘Hardcore, Disturbing and Controversial’

The Hunger Games Franchise Director Francis Lorenzo is currently directing a film adaptation of Stephen King’s novel The long walkand this is a really exaggerated story.

The long walk takes place in the future “where 100 teenage boys undertake an annual competition known as ‘The Long Walk.’ The rules are simple: maintain a speed greater than four miles per hour. Get three warnings in an hour and you’ll be shot dead.

“The last one standing gets everything he wants for the rest of his life. In these grim circumstances, the boys develop deep friendships despite knowing that the survival of each of their friends is a threat to their own.”

This story is absolutely brutal and I was wondering if they will tone it down for the movie, but it looks like the creative team is going all out.

During a recent interview with The King Beat, the film’s screenwriter, JT Mollner, teased that the film will be hardcore, as the creative team is committed to capturing the darkness of King’s book.

Mollner said: “The great thing about all of this is that Francis, this is a real… I mean, it’s not a low-budget film, but it’s not as big a budget as the ones he normally works on with big franchises like Hunger Games and stuff like that.

“So this is a real passion project for him. He wanted to do it right, to do it faithfully. And he knew that meant it was going to be a very hardcore, disturbing, somewhat controversial film.

“And that’s the movie I was interested in writing. Stephen King was also very committed and determined that Francis make an R-rated movie that honors the book and stays true to the book.”

He continued: “We didn’t back down. Most of the things that you remember being hard to accept in the book are still there. And there are some tweaks that were made to update it that I think are smart… But I’m very happy with the adaptation as a Stephen King fan.

“I’m really happy with what we did. And also the studio notes that came in and, and the feedback from everyone, everyone was on the same page about staying true to the brutality and the seriousness of the book.”

I’m happy to know that this film adaptation will be faithful to the book and that the creative team will not shy away from some of the brutal content and subject matter. I can’t wait to see how it all ends!
