STARZ has released the teaser trailer for its upcoming series Sweet peawhich is described as a “slyly twisted tale of anger.”
Ella Purnell (Yellow Jackets, Fallout) plays Rhiannon in the series, a quiet girl who gets very angry and begins to develop a vengeful and intoxicatingly liberating taste for murder.
In the series, “Rhiannon Lewis doesn’t make much of an impression: People walk right past her on the street without giving her a second glance. She’s constantly passed over for promotions at work, her crush won’t commit, and her father is really, really sick.”
Purnell said in a statement: “I can’t wait for the world to meet Sweetpea! I’ve loved exploring this incredibly complex character, as well as working alongside our dynamic cast and the powerhouses Ella Jones, Kristie Swain and Patrick Walters.
“This has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career so far. Ultimately, the show is about a woman finally finding her voice, told through a unique, dark and comedic lens. I hope audiences have as much fun with Rhiannon Lewis’ crazy journey, which is where she ends up, as we had fun bringing it to life.”
“Then everything in her life turns upside down. Rhiannon is pushed over the edge and spirals out of control. Suddenly the shy girl is gone and in her place is a young woman capable of anything… Rhiannon’s life is transformed when she comes into contact with an intoxicating new power, but can she keep her killer’s secret?”
The rest of the cast includes Nicole Lecky (Mood, Sense8) like Julia, Jon points out (Big boys, suffocated) like Craig, Calam Lynch (Bridgerton Bridge) like AJ, Leah Harvey (Foundation) like Marina, My Friend Jeremy Swift (Ted Lasso) like Norman and Dustin Demri Burns (Slow horses) like Jeff.
The series is adapted from By CJ Skuse cult novel of the same name. It was directed by Ella Jones (The child, back to life), who is also executive producer.
Sweet pea will be released in October.
