Now Deadline reports that Warner Bros. is interested in hiring Transformers: Rise of the Beasts director by Steven Caple Jr. to direct the film.
According to the report, the studio has met with a few directors for the project, but they are hoping to land Caple Jr., who previously worked with Jordan on I believe II.
It was initially reported that the original director, Francis LorenzoHe was supposed to return to direct, but I imagine that’s not the direction the studio intends to take.
Goldsman also revealed at Comic-Con over the weekend that he had completed a second draft of the script for I am legend 2 after meeting Jordan and Smith.
The writer teased: “The world comes back in a way that is quite spectacular, an emotional playground for all of us, not your father’s. I am a legend.”
Goldsman also confirmed previous reports that the sequel would pick up after the original film’s alternate ending. In that ending, before Neville sacrifices himself, he realizes that these Darkseekers have an intelligence and a community, and spare his life.
After surviving this encounter, Neville also sets out in search of a colony of survivors.
Caple Jr. hasn’t officially signed on to direct the project yet, but if he did, it seems like the kind of film he’d love to make.
