MADAME WEB producer says film bombing felt like ‘an axe to the head’

Mrs. Web turned out to be a laughably bad film that received a lot of negative reviews and was a box office flop. During a recent interview with CB, Lorenzo Bonaventura spoke about the reception to the film, saying it was like “an axe to the head.”

When asked about the possibility of revisiting these characters, the producer said, “I have no idea. I, I don’t really know. Yeah, that, that was uh, that was a harrowing experience in the theater. So I’ll tell you.”

When asked what it feels like when a project doesn’t work out or doesn’t resonate with fans as much as you’d like, Bonaventura said it’s “like an axe in the head.”

He added: “I think one of the things, and, and this is a longer conversation that I’d be happy to have. I think one of the problems with streaming is that we don’t know how to judge failure or success, right?

“The opening weekend when it doesn’t work, they just banged your head in. And so the brutality of failure really makes you focus on the next movie. And I don’t want to go through that experience again.

“So there’s a, it’s a tougher experience. So I think that has a lot to do with the kind of movies I watch now, like, okay, how am I going to deal with this?”

The creative team behind Madame Web obviously had no idea what they were doing in terms of story and characters. It’s sad because they had a blueprint to follow in the source material, but they just threw it all out the window and made up something stupid.

One of the film’s co-stars, Emma Roberts, previously expressed her thoughts on why the film flopped, blaming it on Internet culture.

He said, “Things work; things don’t work. Everyone likes to act like they can predict whether they’re going to work or not. And the truth is, they can’t.

“Things go bad, and then they blow up later on TikTok. Things go good, but then you look at them and think, ‘Was that good?’ There’s no secret to it. It’s about making something good and making it happen at the right time.

“Everything else is like a wish and a prayer. I’m not intimidated by failure, and I’m not intimidated by people who have negative thoughts about something.”

The fact is they went out and made a bad movie. It’s Hollywood, it happens! It’s not the first bad movie and it won’t be the last.
