There have been many rumors over the years from fans speculating when we might see the addition of the Marvel character Nova. Now we finally have confirmation that a Nova project is officially in the works, and Marvel president Kevin Feige has given us a timeline for when we can expect the series.
Feige sat down with ComicBook and when asked about Nova, he said, “It’s happening, it’s taking shape. Richard Rider, yeah.” Then when asked if it would be in a theatrical or show format, Feige said, “A show, yeah, yeah.”
As for the expected release date of the project on the small screen, there is still some time, as Feige said: “It’s three or four years away.”
It was previously learned that a Nova project was in development thanks to an interview with Marvel’s head of streaming, animation and television, Brad Winderbaum, who said:
“We love Nova. We’re in the very early stages of developing Nova. We have a new system behind the scenes at Marvel Studios. We’re more like a traditional studio now. We’re developing more than we’re actually producing.
There are plans to develop Nova. I also love Nova. I also love Rich Rider. I hope that makes it to the screen. The world is always chaos. There are always things. You have to conjure these things to make them happen, but I would love to see a Nova show someday.”
At one point Nova was included in an early draft for Avengers: Infinity Warbut despite the efforts of the film’s screenwriters, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, to include it, it was ultimately not included.
Fans were also surprised to see him not excluded from any of the Guardians of the Galaxy films, given that the Nova Corps are present and interact with the Guardians quite a bit throughout the comics.
In an interview with James Gunn, he explained why he never included Richard Rider in his iterations of the Nova Corps.
“Yeah, I’ve never had Richard Rider in anything. He’s too big a character and it seemed too… I didn’t want to… From the very beginning, when I joined the Guardians, I didn’t want to have two humans.
I wanted to have a human being so that he could be surrounded in this world of aliens. And then we realized little by little that all these characters are the only ones of their kind, they are the only human beings for them, you know?”
