A 20-year-old Portuguese tourist has died after being attacked by a crowd of locals and bar waiters in the Albanian resort village of Ksamil. The fatal violence broke out in the early hours of August 18 following an argument inside a local venue.
Police in Albania have arrested 11 people in connection with the killing. Investigators said several of those taken into custody were detained for assisting the suspects after the incident, helping them flee the area and attempting to hide those responsible.
Fatal beach fight in Ksamil
According to Albanian news outlet Pamfleti, the victim was spending time at the Principote bar when he got into a row with a 29-year-old man. The dispute soon moved outside onto the beach near the Paradise bar, where it escalated into a physical brawl involving a crowd of people, including waiters from one of the local venues.
The Portuguese foreigner was initially struck in the face with a fist before attackers set upon him using a sharp object. He suffered multiple wounds in the assault and died of his injuries before he could be saved.
The perpetrators immediately fled the crime scene, triggering a police search. Officers subsequently located and arrested 11 individuals, charging some of them with harboring the main suspects and concealing evidence of the crime.
