According to the manufacturer Brian Grazer, The tornadoes AND Top Gun: The Legend Continues star Mr. Glen Powell could star in a remake of the director Ron Howardthe classic 1991 film Reverse air current.
Grazer broke the news on CNBC and said, “These formats from the late ’90s and ’00s have become very important because the streamers, or studios, are now even more risk-averse.”
Grazer added: “They like brands that are already established, that people know well, and then you add a new twist or a really interesting cast, which is obviously what we’re doing with ours.
“We are doing something with Sydney’s World which I’m very excited about. We’re doing something with Scarlett Johanssonalso very excited. I mentioned Mr. Glen Powell with Reverse air current.”
Ugh, I hate that Hollywood keeps spitting out these remakes and sequels. But shit, people don’t actually watch the originals, which is a shame.
I loved the original Reverse air current film, which has as protagonists Kurt Russell, Donald Sutherland, Robert De Niro, William BaldwinAND Jennifer Jason Leigh.
The film centers on the McCaffrey brothers, Stephen (Russell) and Brian (Baldwin), both firefighters in Chicago. Following in the footsteps of their late father, a legendary firefighter who died in the line of duty, the brothers navigate a complicated relationship marked by rivalry and respect.
Stephen, the older brother, is a fearless and experienced firefighter, while Brian, struggling to escape his brother’s shadow, is a rookie trying to prove his worth. The story unfolds as the brothers tackle dangerous fires and uncover a series of suspicious arson cases plaguing the city.
As the McCaffrey brothers delve deeper into the investigation, they team up with arson investigator Donald “Shadow” Rimgale (De Niro) to uncover the truth behind the deadly blazes. The film pays tribute to the heroism of firefighters.
A direct-to-video sequel came out in 2019, with Sutherland and William Baldwin reprising their roles, but I don’t think anyone wants to admit it existed.
