We have a new photo to share with you from The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power with a new character who will be introduced in season two.
The image comes from Entertainment Weekly and features Círdan the shipbuilder, a legendary character who will be played by The crown’S Ben Daniels. The character is an “elf, a master shipbuilder and fountain of wisdom” and is also another ring-bearer.
Co-showrunner Mr. J.D. Payne he said in an interview: “The wonderful Ben Daniels plays Círdan. He’s a classically trained British actor and he brings a lot of wisdom and authority to the role.”
Co-showrunner Patrick McKay she added: “Also, his humor and his warmth. We really fell in love with him on The Crown and wanted to work with him.”
The character description reads: “As a master shipbuilder, Círdan is the lord of the Grey Havens. It is the port in the region of Lindon that can transport the weary elves of Middle-earth to the Undying Lands of Valinor.
“The last chapter of The Lord of the Rings It is titled “The Grey Havens” because the story ends with the departure of Frodo Baggins and the other ring-bearers (including Círdan) from Middle-earth at the end of the Third Age.
The series is set “thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’S The Hobbit AND The Lord of the Ringsand will take viewers back to a time when great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the thinnest thread, and the greatest villain Tolkien had ever created threatened to plunge the entire world into darkness.
“Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows a cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared resurgence of evil in Middle-earth.
“From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the Elven capital of Lindon, to the extraordinary island kingdom of Númenor, to the farthest corners of the map, these kingdoms and characters will leave a legacy that will live on long after they are gone.”
In season two, Sauron has returned. Cast out by Galadriel, without an army or allies, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will.
“Building on the epic scope and ambition of the first season, Amazon’s second season The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power immerses even its most beloved and vulnerable characters in a growing tide of darkness, challenging each of them to find their place in a world increasingly on the brink of destruction.
“Elves and dwarves, orcs and men, wizards and Harfoots… as friendships are tested and kingdoms begin to fracture, the forces of good fight ever more bravely to hold on to what matters most to them… themselves.”
The Rings of Power Season 2 will debut on Prime Video on August 29.
