Norman Reedus took his career to the next level when he was cast as Daryl Dixon, one of the few characters in Walking Dead universe to get to the end, from the first episode.
She now stars in her own spin-off series The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixonwhose second season will debut this fall, and hopes to continue playing the character while reinventing the TWD universe in the process.
Reedus teased that he could continue playing his zombie-killing biker character for “maybe another six or seven years.” Reedus recently explained to Mr. Feelgood (via Deadline):
“The Daryl Dixon spinoff gave me the opportunity to take the show in a different direction than the original. I didn’t want to do the same show again in a different location. I wanted to reinvent it.
And they let me, with the other people involved who thought like me, come up with something new. So it feels fresh to me. It’s in a different language. It’s shot in a different way.
It’s not so much about zombies, and who gets bitten this week is completely different. So as long as I keep reinventing it, it’s fun.”
In the spinoff, which premiered last September, Daryl finds himself washed up on a beach in France, the source of the zombie virus, and struggles to piece together how he got there and find his way home. Reedus explained:
“We went to Paris and we didn’t want to make an American show and then set it in a European country, without it reflecting in any way where we were shooting it.
So we wanted the French to watch it and feel like it was their show, too. And it worked. The French love the show. So I’m excited for them to see the second season.”
After the original concept for the spin-off was to focus on Daryl and fellow survivor Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride), titled The Walking Dead: Daryl and CarolMcBride had scheduling conflicts with filming the first season. After returning for the season finale, the next season will be titled The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon — Carol’s Book.
In the finale, Daryl decides to stay in France while Carol continues to search for her friend in the United States, with whom she has lost contact.
Season 2 of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon the first episode is scheduled for September 29 on AMC.
