Since then things have moved very slowly. Community: The Movie was announced a couple of years ago. The film, based on the fan-favorite series, welcomes back the show’s creator, Dan Harmonwho is writing the film with Andrea Guestas well as the original cast members Joel McHale, Donald’s Glover, Alison Brie, Danny Pudi, Julia Jacob, Jim Rash, My Friend Ken JeongAND Yvette Nicole Brown.
As for updates, Harmon recently revealed that he’s taking one last look at the script, and while things are moving slowly, they are moving forward, and he asked fans to stop blaming Donald Glover for the delay. Now, Glover’s co-star Joel McHale is echoing that sentiment.
McHale spoke to GQ about the film and addressed rumors that Glover had postponed filming:
“If it’s anyone’s fault, it’s my fault in this case. It’s not his fault at all. He was available. No, no, no, no. OK. I’m going to say it, and please print it. It was absolutely not true. It wasn’t Donald’s fault. We love Donald. You can blame it entirely on my show.”
The actor said that the film has not yet begun shooting, but hinted that it will likely start in 2025.
“Oh, well, it hasn’t been shot yet. It will be. And I don’t have a definitive update because for a moment we thought it was all going to happen this year, and then it didn’t happen. But we have the money, and that’s a huge step. And I hope people still want to see it. And Peacock is paying for it. And so I’m looking forward to it. I’ll say vaguely next year. What do you think?”
Earlier this year, Glover told Deadline that he had received a lot of negative comments on social media, with some believing he was holding back the film’s release.
“It’s happening, but I don’t know when. I swear, it’s happening,” Glover told Deadline. “Everyone hates me on the Internet and it’s not me! I’m like, ‘We know you’re the reason.’ Maybe I was last year, maybe, but not this time.”
