Apple Original Films has released the first poster for the upcoming Formula One movie Formula 1which derives from Top Gun: The Legend Continues director Joseph Kosinski.
The poster offers a first look at its star Brad Pitt as “a former driver returning to Formula 1, alongside Damson Idris as a teammate in the APXGP, a fictional team on the grid.”
The feature film is shot during real Grand Prix weekends, as the team competes against the titans of the sport. The cast also includes Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia AND Samson Kayo.
In the film, Pitt plays a seven-time Formula One world champion who comes out of retirement to return to racing and also to mentor a promising recruit. The actor will also drive a real race car in a real race for the film.

Pit previously spoke about the film saying, “The atmosphere is incredible, to be able to be a part of it and tell our story. The [F1] team opened the doors for us. I play a guy who raced in the 90s, who has a horrible accident and disappears, to compete in other disciplines.
“His friend, played by Javier Bardem, the owner of the team, contacts him. They’re last on the grid, they haven’t scored a point. But they’ve got a young phenomenon, played by Damson Idris, and they bring me in like a Hail Mary. You’ve never seen the speed, you’ve never seen the G-forces like this, the footage is really, really emotional.”
Talking about how they would shoot this film, it was explained: “They spent 18 months putting into practice what they learned The Maverick from Top Gun to develop the smallest 6k mobile camera ever designed to put the viewer in the cockpit. A cockpit where their stars will actually drive.
“That’s right. Brad Pitt driving an F1 car from Silverstone onwards. The car was designed by Mercedes and is already testing (you may have seen a video online). As are their actors, in simulation and in real life. Lewis Hamilton is in daily communication and is advising on the story and script to ensure it is the most accurate racing film ever made.”
The production team is also said to be “determined to make the most accurate and impressive racing film anyone has ever seen.” Tom Cruise even offered to do a few extra laps if they needed them.
Kosinski said it’s “coming along fast” and explained that they’re shooting using techniques they learned while making Top Gun: The Legend Continues.”
He said: “It’s fascinating. I can’t wait to show people behind the scenes. We’ll be filming on the track with real cars and trying to apply everything I learned in Top Gun to Formula One. It’ll be fun.”
He also spoke about the way the film was shot, saying, “Certainly seeing people react to a film that is shot in an authentic and first-person way like Top Gun makes us all feel good, that our approach works and is appreciated by the audience.”
He went on to talk about how he could apply this idea to his next film, saying, “It almost makes me laugh to see people so in love with real photography. Younger people haven’t seen much of it.
“They’re so used to CGI [computer-generated images] being a tool of big films, when you actually shoot something, it seems innovative.
“This is exactly the approach for Formula One… to film real races and real cars and capture them. It will be a huge challenge, but for me it’s exciting.”
The film will be released on June 27, 2025.
