Warner Bros. has released a new image from the upcoming Middle-earth epic anime film The Lord of the Rings: The Rohirrim War.
The image features a new look at Hera of Rohan, voiced by Wise GaiaShe is the main character of the story and when it comes to that, Kenji Kamiyana He said: “In Japanese animation, it’s not uncommon for a female protagonist to be the main character, but it’s rarer in live-action Lord of the Rings films.
“Our film has a strong female protagonist in Héra, and our story is told by Tolkien’s noble figure Éowyn, so women are very well represented. I think there are a lot of fans who really like Tolkien’s original work, so I hope those people will enjoy it. Making this film was a fun challenge.”
Set 183 years before the events of the original film trilogy, The Lord of the Rings: The Rohirrim War tells the fate of the House of Helm Hammerhand, the legendary King of Rohan.
“A sudden attack by Wulf, a cunning and ruthless Dunlending lord seeking vengeance for his father’s death, forces Helm and his people to make a last, daring stand in the ancient stronghold of Hornburg, a mighty fortress that would later be called Helm’s Deep.
“Finding herself in an increasingly desperate situation, Héra, Helm’s daughter, must find the will to lead the resistance against a deadly enemy bent on their utter destruction.”
Screenwriter Philippa Boyenswho wrote Peter Jackson’s live-action films, said: “The Lord of the Rings: The Rohirrim War It works for anime because it’s character-driven and contained within its own world, two things that mesh beautifully with Japanese storytelling, and there’s no better storyteller than Kenji Kamiyama in the medium.”
