Legendary and Sony give STREET FIGHTER movie a 2026 release date despite loss of directors

Legendary Pictures and Sony Pictures have announced that their live-action Street Fighter film will be released in theaters on March 20, 2026.

The news comes about a week after we learned that Speak with me directors Danny AND Michael Filippou abandoned the project due to scheduling issues. So regardless of the fact that the film doesn’t have a director attached, the studio now has a date to work towards.

There are no details about the movie, but we know that it will feature a group of Street Fighter characters fighting each other, and we can only hope that the fighting sequences are incredibly badass!

Whoever comes on board to make this movie has the opportunity to make a great action movie where they could get really creative with the fight sequences and try some new and unique things.

The first Street Fighter movie came out in 1994, and even as a kid I remember thinking, “What the hell was that!?” Then in 2009 the movie came out Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Liwhich was forgettable.

I would love nothing more than to see Legendary produce a fantastic Street Fighter movie packed with insane action, but we’ll just have to wait and see if they’re able to bring in the right creative team to tackle it.
