The HBO ones Harry Potter the series has taken on Succession former students Francesca Gardiner AND Mark MylodGardiner has been tapped to serve as showrunner and executive producer on HBO’s untitled new series based on the “Harry Potter” books, while Mylod is on board to direct several episodes in addition to serving as an executive producer.
Gardiner and Mylod were brought on board following an extensive search by HBO and Warner Bros. to find the right creative team to lead the “Potter” venture.
With Gardiner and Mylod in place, casting is believed to be the next order of business. As announced last year, HBO plans to roll out the new “Harry Potter” series over the course of a decade, with each season based on one of the franchise’s books.
The first installment is expected to premiere in 2026, David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, said during an earnings call earlier this year.
According to the synopsis, “The series will be a faithful adaptation of the beloved ‘Harry Potter’ book series by author and executive producer JK Rowling.
“The series will feature a new cast leading a new generation of fandom, filled with fantastic detail and much-loved characters that ‘Harry Potter’ fans have loved for over twenty-five years.
“Each season will bring ‘Harry Potter’ and these incredible adventures to new audiences around the world, while the original, classic and beloved films will remain at the core of the franchise and available to watch globally.”
