Michael Fassbender he’s officially ready to star George Clooneythe next spy thriller series The agencywhich is a remake of the French political drama series The Bureau.
It is now confirmed that Michael Fassbender will star in the previously titled series The Department. The actor will also serve as an executive producer on the show.
The series follows Martian (Fassbender), “a covert CIA agent who has been ordered to abandon his life undercover and return to London Station. When the love he left behind reappears, romance is rekindled.
“His career, his true identity and his mission are pitted against his heart; throwing them both into a deadly game of international intrigue and espionage.”
Chris McCarthyPresident/CEO of Showtime and Paramount Media, explained that the series “will follow in the great tradition of Homeland, one of Showtime’s most successful and brand-defining shows.
“Just as Homeland elevated global espionage in The Department, it will take viewers even deeper into a world of intrigue and subterfuge with complicated characters who wrestle with their own demons as they battle existential threats to the nation and the world.”
Alex BergerPresident and Executive Producer of The Originals Productions, added: “We are excited to extend the DNA of The Bureau through The Department for Showtime with our friends at MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios.
“The Originals Productions (TOP), Federation and Paramount are taking our franchise to the next level by creating a new high-stakes international espionage show set in a very complex geopolitical context today.”
Fassbender recently wrapped production on Steven Soderbergh’s Black Bag starring Cate Blanchett.
Joe Wright will direct and executive produce the series. The agency will premiere on Paramount+ with Showtime later this year.
