World Press Freedom Day: we believe in journalism

This May 3rd, in commemoration of World Press Freedom DaySpanish and Portuguese language media, belonging to associations in Argentina (ADEPA), Brazil (ANJ), Colombia (AMI), Chile (ANP), Ecuador (AEDEP), Spain (AMI), Mexico (Alianza de Medios MX), Peru (CPP), Portugal (APIMPRENSA) and the Latin American organizations members of SIP-IAPA (Inter-American Press Association) and WAN-IFRA (World Association of News Publishers), reaffirm their commitment to responsible, excellent, honest and transparent journalism.

The bell “We believe in journalism”started in 2020 by the Spanish agency Portavoz for AMI España, it has gained great relevance and now unites media and associations from different countries in their dedication to journalism and in their mission to provide information based on essential values.

This commitment arises from need for continuous self-evaluation to improve the provision of accurate, clear and useful information to communities, highlighting the importance of quality journalism as a crucial tool to combat fake news and disinformation that harm social coexistence.

The message of this campaign is timeless and reflective the essence of journalistic work and the fundamental duties of journalists and the media towards society.

Furthermore, there remains an active reminder of his commitment to his principles, an openness to constant self-criticism, ensure that media in the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking communities remain plural and true to their vocation of service in a democratic environment that supports freedom of the press, the right to information and freedom of expression.
