Is Josh Gad teasing the SPACEBALLS sequel script he worked on?

Josh Gad recently shared a post on Instagram containing a photo of an edited cover of the screenplay of a film he worked on. She said of the script that it is “the funniest and best thing [he’s] ever worked.”

There’s a good chance this could be a sequel Spaceballs. The screenplay cover, though blacked out, states that the material is “based on characters created by Mel Brooks” and opens to an exterior shot of a “star field.”

It definitely feels like it could be a sequel to Spaceballs! If it was, that would be great!

Gad said: “I just turned in a script for a movie that I think might be the funniest and best thing I’ve ever worked on and I’m so damn excited.

“Working with my boys @cubanmissiledh and @benjisamit has been heaven on Earth and on many other planets too. I love you guys!”

Brooks has been teasing a possible Spaceballs sequel for years, and a couple of months ago he participated in a panel at the TCM Classic Film Festival in Hollywood following a screening of his 1987 film Spaceballs.

While speaking with TCM’s Ben Mankiewicz, Brooks spoke about the collaboration George Lucas and as the creator of Star Wars it was okay for Brooks to make the parody.

The only thing Lucas told Brooks he couldn’t do was make his own Spaceballs products, like toys and stuff, which he never did.

Brooks then thought about making it happen Spaceballs 2 and if he had gone ahead with that film he wondered if he would have been able to do the merchandising for that film.

Brooks also spoke about his love for the Star Wars franchise, saying, “I loved it. I loved the photo. I thought it was unusual. I thought it was incredibly original and was a combination of all the things I loved as a child, like Ivanhoe and Robin Hood.”

He added: “It was kind of a fairy tale with the zaps. Lots of zaps. But it was nice. It was a good movie and his heart was in the right place.”

Years ago, Brooks said the sequel would have a title Spaceballs: The quest for more money. But we’ll just have to wait and see if this thing really takes off. I hope so!
