I have a teaser trailer here for you to watch for a wonderful animated film in development called Salamander Island. It looks like the project will tell a beautifully animated story.
In the film, “Arriving on a wild island with her father, 10-year-old Juliet encounters a surprising giant salamander. The animal and its similars grow on the nearby island, surrounded by sharks.
“The girl and the beast become friends. But when Juliet meets old Pramana, guardian of the legend of the salamanders, he warns her: ‘If the salamanders are freed, they will invade the world…’”
The film is inspired by the 1936 Czech science fiction novel War with the Newtsand was written and directed by Catherine Maximoff.
The director spoke about the film saying: “The Czech writer Karel Čapek (1890-1938), a true visionary, the man who invented the word robot, imagined how things could go off the rails almost a century ago. And here we are now.
“His unclassifiable masterpiece novel, War with the Newts (1936), describes our world as it has actually become today – on the brink of ruin. We have extracted the essence of this literary monument that deals with political, economic, geographical, scientific, cultural issues and with it we have created an original story.
“Its narrative, its structure and all the characters were all invented. We developed them in a single current environment.
“It’s a story that we want to tell from the point of view of an 11-year-old girl, with her energy, enthusiasm and hope, typical of her age. It’s a family film. It should speak to children and the child we still carry within us.”
There’s no release date, nor a cast announced, but this is one movie I can’t wait to see!
