The boys showrunner Eric Kripke announced that the popular superhero series will end with the upcoming fifth season.
Kripke shared the news on X, saying, “Season 5 will be the final season!. It was always my plan, I just had to be cautious until I got the final OK from Vought. I’m excited to bring the story to a bloody, epic, wet climax. Watch season 4 in 2 DAYS, because the end has begun!”
The showrunner had previously spoken about the closure of the series with the fifth season, making reference Supernatural which was initially supposed to last five seasons, but ultimately ended with the fifteenth season.
He said, “I have since learned not to try to name seasons after the person who, and this is no exaggeration, is literally the most wrong in the history of entertainment about how many seasons their show should be.
He added: “Someone pointed it out to me and I thought, ‘You’re right. It’s ridiculous. I need to keep my mouth shut.” And so I will.”
Kripke then hilariously poked fun at himself by saying, “No one was more wrong than this guy in all of human history about how many seasons their show would last.”
“So I won’t make the same mistake twice. Guinness World Record for being the dumbest about how long their show should be, there would literally be a picture of me.”
The boys The creative team is currently working on the fifth season and, in this regard, Kripke said: “We’ve been in the writers’ room for about a month right now, so we have some pretty interesting ideas.”
He continued: “It’s a very rough lava-style deal right now. It hasn’t hardened into anything, but I’m excited. I think some crazy things were talked about, that’s for sure.”
In season four, “The world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscular thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating her power.
“Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca’s son and his job as leader of the Boys. The rest of the team is fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they must find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late.”
