Ian McKellen Heard Gandalf Will Be Part of THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE HUNT FOR GOLLUM

As you know, Warner Bros. is producing a new film set in JRR TolkienIt’s called Middle Earth The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.

Peter Jackson is producing the film together with its partners Fran Walsh AND Filippa Boyens with whom he will write the screenplay Phoebe Gittins AND Arty Papageorgiou. Andy Serkis he was hired to direct.

A variety of films will “explore untold plots” and this film in particular will obviously focus on Gollum. As you can imagine, there are some familiar faces that could appear in the film, and one of the most notable ones is Gandalf.

During a recent interview with The Times, Ian McKellen he said he felt “stirrings in Tolkien land” and added that “I haven’t shaved in months.”

McKellen is referring to the hair he grew up wearing King of the players. McKellen also said he has heard that Gandalf will be part of the film, but he added that nothing is set in stone.

He said, “But there is no script, there is no offer, there is no plan.” When asked if he was interested in returning to the role, he replied with a chuckle, “If I were alive.”

So it looks like there’s a good chance we’ll see McKellen in the role of Gandalf again, which would be great!

During a previous interview, Jackson talked about the story they’re trying to tell while offering some insight into why they wanted to tell this tragic Gollum story.

Jackson explained: “The character of Gollum/Sméagol has always fascinated me because Gollum reflects the worst of human nature, while his Sméagol side is, without a doubt, quite sympathetic.

“I think it resonates with both readers and movie audiences, because there’s a little bit of both in all of us. We really want to explore his past and delve into those parts of his journey that we haven’t had time to cover in the previous films.

“It’s too early to know who will cross his path, but suffice it to say, we’ll be taking a cue from Professor Tolkien.”

Viggo Mortensen, who played Aragorn, had also previously said he would be open to reprising his role in the new project. The actor explained that he would sign up as long as he was right for the character and as long as his current age wasn’t a problem for the story.

He said: “I don’t know exactly what the story is, I haven’t heard about it. Maybe I’ll hear about it sometime. I love playing that character. I learned a lot from playing the character. I loved it. I would only do it if I was suited to it to the role, in terms of my current age and so on. I would only do it if I was right for the character.

Would you be happy to see Ian McKellen back as Gandalf?
