Sherlock Holmes director Guy Ritchie is developing a new Sherlock Holmes series for Amazon Prime Video that will be based on Andy Lane’s series The young Sherlock Holmes.
Hero Fiennes Tiffin is set to take the lead role in the project. Ritchie and Tiffin previously worked together on the film “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.”
The series is described as an “action-packed origin story of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s beloved detective in an explosive reimagining of this iconic character.
“At the age of 19, Sherlock Holmes has fallen from grace, raw, unfiltered and formless, when he finds himself embroiled in a murder mystery at Oxford University that threatens his freedom.
“Plunging into his first case ever with a complete lack of discipline, Sherlock manages to unravel a worldwide conspiracy that will change his life forever.”
Ritchie said in a statement: “In ‘Young Sherlock’ we will see a hilarious new version of the detective everyone thinks they know in a way they’ve never imagined before. We’ll discover this enigmatic character, discover what makes him tick, and discover how he becomes the genius we all love.
Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, added: “This exciting new chapter about one of the world’s best-known literary characters will delight our global customers with its captivating storytelling. With the brilliant creative team, led by Guy Ritchie and Matthew Parkhill, we will explore the untold mysteries of how young Sherlock found his way to a life of searching for the truth.”
So even if Ritchie isn’t directing another Sherlock Holmes movie with Robert Downey Jr. anytime soon, he’ll still be playing in the sandbox and it looks like it’ll be fun!
There was a The young Sherlock Holmes film made in 1985 with the producer Steven Spielberg and director Barry Levisonand I love that movie!
The series was also developed by the writer Matthew Parkhill (Deep state, Rascal), who will also serve as showrunner and executive producer. Ritchie will direct.
There are eight books in the The young Sherlock Holmes series. I can’t wait to see how this series develops!
