YELLOWSTONE begins filming its fifth and final season

Production has begun on the final episodes of the fifth and final season of By Taylor Sheridan Yellowstone. The series has been on hiatus since January 2023, and there has been a lot of behind-the-scenes drama during that time.

As you know, there was a major contractual dispute, which ultimately led to Kevin Costner having been let go from the series, and while reports have placed the blame on Costner, the actor has a very different story of what happened and called the producers and account of the behind-the-scenes drama “untruthful.”

Costner recently set the record straight and wanted to return for the final episodes of the season, but right now, as filming begins on season five, he’s at the Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of his Western Horizon: An American Saga.

He is also currently working on his third film Horizon and said in a press conference that he will return to continue working on the film after it finishes at Cannes. So, it doesn’t look like he’ll be returning to reprise his role as John Dutton, which is a shame.

Costner recently said of Yellowstone, “I think they should do what they want. Am I available to return? I’ve never been in a position to tell them what to do. I can only do what I can do. She also noted that she hadn’t seen any script for the finale and added: “I’m not involved in any of that stuff.”

The actor previously said he was trying to finalize plans for his return, and spoke about his hope of returning, saying: “I wish we could do it but we haven’t been able to.”

He continued: “I thought I was going to do seven [seasons] but right now it’s five o’clock. So how does that work – I hope so – but they have a lot of different shows going on. Maybe he will. Maybe this will come back to me. If it does and I feel really comfortable [it]I’d like to do it.

Yellowstone says the Dutton family who controls the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States. Between shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds, and hard-earned respect, the ranch is in constant conflict with those it borders: a growing city, an Indian reservation, and America’s first national park.

Yellowstone series actor Ian Bohen he said the end of the show will offer the “best ending ever.” I hope that’s true, but I don’t see how it will be possible without Costner’s involvement. We’ll just have to wait and see!

Do you think they’ll actually finish this series without Costner? Do you think there’s a chance he’ll return?
