Last week it was reported that Sony’s Marvel series Silk: the spider society is no longer going forward on Amazon Prime Video. But the series isn’t dead yet as the project is now moving to a new streaming home.
The update was shared in a report from The Hollywood Reporter, and it will be interesting to see if the series actually finds a new home.
The series was developed by Walking Dead‘S Angela Kang and according to Deadline, Kang’s most recent proposal was actually well received.
But it is explained that “after deliberating where to allocate resources on genre IP projects – which are inherently expensive – the decision was made to proceed with Noir, with Cage, and shelve Silk.”
The series would center on Korean-American spider-heroine Cindy Moon. Although she was the main character, it was previously explained that at one point the series was “refocused with a more male-oriented audience in mind.”
Cindy Moon was described in casting descriptions for the series as a Korean-American between 19 and 29, a young girl from Queens who is on her own for the first time.
Although she is a complete beginner in law enforcement and crime fighting, she is said to love the feeling of beating up criminals to vent her frustrations and has an affinity with 80s and 90s pop culture.
He also struggles with his identity and heritage, but tries to focus on his family, friends and relationships.
The series was also produced by Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse duo Phil Lord AND Christopher Millerwith Kai Wu AND Jim Barnes executive co-production.
From Amazon Catherine Pope he previously said in an interview: “It’s definitely a big goal for all of us here, and for me in particular. I was already a fan of Angela Kang, so I’m really, really excited to be working with her on Silk.
“She’s just brilliant and a total professional. This is also an example of working closely with Tom Rothman and Sanford Panitch and the film team to make sure we are in step with them and performing on the same level.
“They did a really incredible job with that franchise, so we want to make sure we perform at that level.”
Lord and Miller previously said in a joint statement: “We are very grateful to everyone at Sony Pictures Television for choosing to partner with us and expand our long-lasting relationship with the studio.
“Together we aim to produce groundbreaking work of the highest quality and integrity, and to place that work close to your eyes and ears, wherever you are.”
I was actually looking forward to watching this show because Silk is a great and interesting character to play with. I hope Silk’s story is eventually brought to life in some way as a movie or series, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
