It was announced that the live-action series Silk: Spider Society that was in the works at Amazon is no longer moving forward.
The show was originally greenlit in November 2022 in a deal with Sony Pictures Television to develop a suite of shows based on Sony-controlled Marvel characters. It was set to debut on MGM+ domestically before a global launch on Prime Video.
Walking Dead alum Angela Kang was on board as executive producer and showrunner, with Kang also signing a multi-year deal with Amazon MGM Studios.
Kang will continue with that agreement. Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Amy Pascal also served as executive producers on the series. According to a person familiar with the situation, Sony will try to shop the series to other buyers.
A few months ago it was reported that Amazon had closed the writers’ room for “Silk,” with the writing staff released to pursue other work, although Kang remained attached to the project as showrunner.
At the time, it was revealed that Amazon wanted to reorient the show with a more male-oriented audience in mind, which would align with the company’s success with shows like The boys and the spin-off Gen V, Fall, ReacherAND Jack Ryan.
Now, the Silk series could still happen as the project can be sold to other streamers.
The official logline released at the time of the series order stated that the show would follow Cindy Moon, described as “a Korean-American woman bitten by the same spider that bit Peter Parker, as she escapes prison and searches for her missing family on her I walk”. way to become the superhero known as Silk.”
How do you feel about this news? Do you hope the series finds another home or do you just want Sony to focus on the other Spider-Verse characters?
