Russell Crowe (Gladiator) has come aboard a new action thriller film project titled Bear country. He will reunite with his people Unhinged director Derrick Bortewho will lead the project.
Crowe will play an “elderly but formidable club owner, Manco Kapak, who has been robbed by a masked gunman. Now, his aspirations of selling his club and riding off into the sunset with his girlfriend appear further away than ever.”
It is explained that “the cartel bosses are breathing down his neck and a young upstart has passed himself off as the new kid in town keen to buy the club”.
The director said in a statement: “After the great experience we shared UnhingedI was looking for another project with Russell, one that would allow him to showcase more of what so many people (including me) loved so much about Jackson Healy in The good guys – and we both knew right away that Bear Country was the one.”
Producer Mark Fasano added: “Bear country will keep viewers on the edge of their seats with plenty of action and surprises in store. Russell brings an engaging energy to the screen and has helped cultivate some of the best thrillers of recent years.”
Producer Jeffrey Greenstein said: “The way Russell and Derrick took such a simple concept and transformed it Unhinged in a non-stop white-knuckle ride is exactly what excites me about bringing the two together for this sophisticated and fun ride through the sexy, sleazy streets of Los Angeles.
“In addition to having action and comedy, this allows Derrick to do what he does best, ramping up the suspense through a cast of highly selectable characters in Bear Country.”
The film is based on the novel by Thomas Perry, Strip.
