There’s another one game of Thrones spin-off series in development and where it comes from The Batman writer Mattson Tomlin.
The series has just been greenlit and is about Aegon the Conqueror, the first Targaryen king. The series is adapted from George R. R. MartinThe novel Fire & Blood, which is a historical account of the Targaryen reign.
Tomlin spoke about the series with Entertainment Weekly and said that the series is inspired by historical figures such as Napoleon and Alexander the Great.
He said: “Talking to George, it became very clear: ‘This is history, treat it as if that’s what happened. Unlike the original series, I don’t have thousands of pages to adapt. I’ve got a couple of hundred that I’m really on concentrated, and in those pages of Fire & Blood there are many clues.
The writer added: “It kind of turns into doing Napoleon or doing Alexander the Great or doing some great historical figure that we know a lot about the guy. We know where he was, we know who he conquered, we know who lived, and we know who died.
He added: “Everything becomes the plot, and then it becomes my work, but what did that mean thematically? How does it feel? What were the emotions when this person died and this person lived? We don’t have the context. We don’t know what the others said.”
The book’s description reads: “With all the fire and fury fans have come to expect from international bestselling author George R.R. Martin, This is the first volume of the definitive two-part history of the Targaryens in Westeros.
“Centuries before the events of A game of thrones, House Targaryen, the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria, settled on Dragonstone. Fire and blood begins their story with the legendary Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and continues through the generations of Targaryens who fought to maintain that iconic throne, until the civil war that nearly destroyed their dynasty.
“What really happened during the Dance of the Dragons? Why did it become so deadly to visit Valyria after the Doom? What is the origin of Daenerys’ three dragon eggs? These are just some of the questions answered in this essential chronicle.”
This should make for a great and interesting series, and it’s not the only prequel series in the works. HBO is also developing A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Knight Errant which is based on Tales of Dunk and Egg. Then, of course, there is House of the Dragon which will have a second season.
