ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK Reboot Director, Radio Silence, Exit Project

The Radio Silenzio direction team, Tyler Gillett AND Matt Bettinelli-Olpin (Ready or not, Abigail, Scream), they also had to lead the reboot of Giovanni Carpenter classic Escape from New York.

According to ComicBook, the filmmakers have abandoned the project. The reason they left was because of “limited time and rights issues to move forward with that project, along with their schedules, which were close to the time frame to possibly launch into the revival.”

Gillett confirmed the news in a statement: “That’s not the case, unfortunately. I think stocks like these have been bouncing around for a while and I think they’ve tried to get them out of the blocks a few times. I think ultimately it’s a tricky thing. ” question of rights.

He added: “There’s a clock and ultimately we weren’t in a position to make it happen. But who knows? I think, in hindsight, it’s crazy to think that, after Scream, we would be getting into a John Carpenter franchise.

The director added: “You never know. There’s still interest and we’ve had some conversations about it, but we don’t have any official connection.”

Escape from New York it shouldn’t be remade anyway, but that won’t stop Hollywood from moving forward. I’m sure they will find another director to take on the project. It’ll just delay things a little longer.

In the story of the original film, a major war between the United States and the Soviet Union is coming to an end and the entire island of Manhattan has been transformed into a giant maximum security prison.

When Air Force One is hijacked and crashes on the island, President (Donald Nice to meet you) is taken hostage by a group of prisoners.

Plissken Snake (Kurt Russell), a former special forces soldier turned criminal, is recruited to recover the president in exchange for his freedom.
