Both Marvel and DC studios are at a crucial point of change, with DC doing a complete overhaul and Marvel changing the way their projects are produced, slowing down and focusing on story rather than content . It’s almost like a clean slate for Marvel, even though they successfully explored many stories and characters in the first three phases, they were put into the Infinity Saga and now, in phase 5, we are building something completely new and we still have many new territories to discover.
One of those new territories not yet explored by the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that of the X-Men. We’ve seen that universe in films made by Fox, with some films being much better than others, but fans can’t wait to see how they’ll be integrated into the established world of Marvel. We’ve glimpsed a couple of characters like Professor X and the Beast, but the future of the entire X-Men crew is unknown.
But there’s a rumor going around right now that may or may not turn out to be true. Reliable industrial fucker @MyTimeToShineH (via CBM) reported Black Adam AND Jumanji star Dwayne Johnson is on Marvel Studios’ radar to play En Sabah Nur, aka Apocalypse. This is assumed to be for the next one X-Men reboot, although it’s possible he’ll play a variant of the villain in one of the upcoming ones Avengers Films featuring many of the original X-Men are expected to appear.
He would fit the character physically and after the less-than-stellar reception of his beloved Black Adam movie, he would probably be thrilled to take on the role.
The Apocalypse was created by the writer Louise Simonson and artist Jackson Guicefirst appeared in X Factor #5 in 1986. The ancient mutant believes in the concept of “survival of the fittest” and in his desire to bring about the evolution of mutantkind by any means necessary, often through destructive and genocidal methods.
He sees himself as a divine figure and seeks to impose his vision of mutant supremacy on the world and has assembled various groups of mutant followers, known as the “Four Horsemen”, to serve his purposes. Oscar Isaac he previously played the villain in 2016 X-Men: Apocalypse.
Obviously these are just rumors for now, but let us know if you’d like to see Dwayne Johnson in this role or if you’d prefer someone else replace the role.
