James Gunn recently shared a preview image of himself Superman movie with David Corenswet dress like the Man of Steel.
Most fans liked the image, but the dress is definitely a matter of debate among fans. There is also another interesting debate that has been sparked.
Gunn has long joked that this film will give fans a brighter, more optimistic take on the Man of Steel, and some fans believe that’s the tone the first picture should have had.
One of our readers said in the comments: “I thought she was going to debut with a bright, vibrant, upbeat All Star picture. This is supposed to set the tone and feels just as dark as MOS. Even Superman seems completely unconcerned as the city comes under attack.
I’ll be honest, I expected the same thing from the first look at Superman. While I have no doubt that this film will hopefully be vibrant, bright and upbeat, it would have been great to see that version of Superman that fans have been waiting for on first watch.
That image will come in time, though. Meanwhile, we know what Superman’s costume will look like, and this also captures another tone of the film, something a little darker, but still vibrant.
Again, I like the photo! But I’m waiting to see that photo of Superman that captures everything we love about the character. This doesn’t do it.
What do you think of the first look photo? Would you have liked to see Superman in a brighter, more optimistic way?
Superman will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
Superman stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman; Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane; Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor; Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern; Isabela Mercede as Hawkgirl; Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt/Mr. Terrific; Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen; María Gabriela de Faría in the role of Angela Spica, aka The Engineer; Sara Sampaio, in the role of Eva Teschmacher; AND Terence Rosemore as Otis.
Superman The theatrical release is scheduled for July 11, 2025.
