Ahsoka co-star Ivanna Sakhno has found his next big project. She is destined to star alongside him Allison Williams AND Violet McGraw in Atomic Monster and Blumhouse M3GAN 2.0.
Akela Cooper (Malignant, M3GAN), who wrote the first film, which was a great success, will once again write the sequel Gerard Johnstone also returning to directing.
When previously there was talk of the sequel, the producer James Wan he joked: “It’s still early, but M3GAN is coming back in a big way. The first movie came at just the right time” [when concerns about AI were mounting], and we’ll definitely focus on that for the next one. We are exploring the universe of artificial intelligence even further.”
During a previous interview, Johnstone spoke about the sequel and when asked if he would try to replicate the viral aspects of the first film, he said: “I think if you do that, you’re setting yourself up to fail, and audiences will feel it a mile away.
He continued: “I think for me what works about the film and what I think people respond to is that it’s funny and absurd and full of lots of pleasant surprises.”
Johnstone continued, “And so looking at the sequel, these are my role models that I’m just trying to follow, how can we continue to be funny, absurd, surprising, but at the same time make sure?” that we continue to be part of the cultural conversation, I guess.
She added: “Other than dance, we’re not too heavy-handed about it, but there are themes about co-parenting in the age of artificial intelligence and things like that. So it’s important to have some substance to hang all those dance sequences on.”
There are no details to share about the sequel or information on who Sakhno will play, but it will be fun to see what the next chapter in the evil AI story entails.
