Director David Leitch he has been very successful with his entertaining and action-packed films Deadpool 2, High speed trainand more recently, The boy of autumnso it seems like a good match for the Jurassic world franchising. He was attached to direct the fourth film, which comes out next summer, but ultimately dropped out of the project, and he’s opening up a little about why.
In a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Leitch spoke about his time on the film and his departure, saying:
“We have the privilege of choice and that is disheartening. And that’s true, and in a way we’ve earned it, in terms of the films that we’ve made and the successes that they’ve had, and hopefully continued success, but to be invited to be in those worlds, you want to take it seriously these conversations and we are creative in finding our way into many things. So it was a really great conversation, being able to talk to Steven and Frank about that franchise that is so dear to us, it was a really beautiful moment.”
Leitch continued:
“Ultimately, you have to do what’s best for the film in question and do what’s best for you as an artist. And make sure you make the same movie, and you can make it within the parameters, and at some point we just said, we wanted to give that answer quickly because they have to go and quickly make this movie that everyone is excited about. to see and I think they’ve chosen, obviously, a brilliant director, who we love and respect and… it’s going to be fantastic.”
The film is now directed by Gareth Edwardswho directed films such as Godzilla, Rogue One: A Star Wars Storyand more recently The creator. So it’s in good hands. It’s a shame that Leitch didn’t get to see his vision take shape, but it seems like the studio had a vision in mind and wasn’t looking for someone to come in and shake it up.
Jurassic World 4 will be released in theaters on July 2, 2025.
