Chris Pine Is Stunned Warner Bros. Canceled Billion-Dollar WONDER WOMAN Franchise Even Though He’s Sure It Won’t Return

The first film was a major box office success, loved by fans and critics alike. The second film was unfortunately not a success, and although a third film was in the works, the studio backtracked and canceled the project amid the change. James Gunn AND Pietro Safran he became head of the DC.

When Pine recently spoke to Business Insider while promoting his directorial debut, Poolmanhe was asked Wonder Womanand said he is struggling to figure out how Warner Bros. can pull the plug on a franchise that has earned the studio nearly $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

“I’m amazed they said no to a billion-dollar franchise and decided to go elsewhere. I don’t know what the reasoning was behind that; she’s above my pay grade, but Wonder Woman is an incredible character; Patty is a truly thoughtful director.”

Pine said he doubted he would return Wonder Woman 3 had it been made, as his character is “dead” and “gonzo”, adding: “It would be ridiculous to try to bring me back.” He also recalled that he was initially skeptical about the role of Steve Trevor.

“I had no interest in playing the boyfriend, and he seemed like second fiddle. Then, talking to Patty, the way she described it was, “Forget all the superhero stuff, this is a love story, this is ‘Casablanca,’ this is the movie I want to make.” I was like, oh, now that’s really cool because when have you seen a superhero movie that was a love story at the end? This had nothing to do with blowing shit up.

The first movie was so, so good. The second one missed the mark, but I feel Jenkins and Gadot deserved another film together.

If Gunn decides to start over with a new Wonder Woman, he’ll have some big shoes to fill.
