James Gunn shares first look at SUPERMAN costume with David Corenswet getting ready

Superman director James Gunn shared a preview photo of the film David Corenswet dress like the Man of Steel.

This is our first look at the Superman costume in the film and it’s definitely different from any costumes we’ve seen on the big screen before, and it looks like it’s seen some heavy action. You can also see that this version of the suit will have the iconic red shorts.

The costume appears to be inspired by Superman’s costume from the 2011 DC Comics series New 52 reboot, with some small changes.

In the photo, Clark Kent prepares to patrol the Metropolis skyline while something crazy is happening in the city. I love the picture and can’t wait to see some real footage!

Superman will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”

Superman stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman; Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane; Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor; Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern; Isabela Mercede as Hawkgirl; Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt/Mr. Terrific; Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen; María Gabriela de Faría in the role of Angela Spica, aka The Engineer; Sara Sampaio, in the role of Eva Teschmacher; AND Terence Rosemore as Otis.

Superman will launch the cinematic portion of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters: Part 1. The theatrical release is scheduled for July 11, 2025.
