NECA has revealed a new action figure for its Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles line and is by the legendary cartoonist Jack Kirby.
As you know, Kirby is the creator and co-creator of some of Marvel’s greatest and most popular superhero characters.
So what’s the connection with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Well, “Kirby” appeared as an art character who interacted with Donatello in a 1986 comic.
The figure is 100% based on Kirby as the Kirby estate must approve the figure’s likeness. It’s about time Kirby had his own action figure!
In the comic, Kirby discovers a way to bring his drawings to life with a pencil powered by a magical crystal, and even manages to make his way into another dimension.
Figure includes pencil, sketchbook, various hands, a comic-style blaster weapon and a Kirby-style creature with its own weapon.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Mirage Comics) – Kirby 7″ scale action figure
“Here’s an action figure based on the original Eastman & Laird Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics from Mirage Studios! In a single-issue microseries comic published in May 1986, Donatello meets a reclusive artist named Kirby, who can bring his sketches to life with the power of a crystal-enhanced magic pencil.
“Celebrate Donatello’s fan-favorite solo adventure with this 7-inch scale Kirby action figure, complete with interchangeable hands and a variety of issue-specific accessories. Comes in window packaging with original artwork by Kevin Eastman. Special thanks to Kevin Eastman and the Kirby Estate!”
The figure is now available at Target.
