Benedict Cumberbatch is a puppeteer searching for his son in the trailer for Netflix’s crime thriller series ERIC

Netflix has released a trailer for the upcoming film Benedict Cumberbatch thriller series Eric. It seems to tell a unique story as Cumberbatch plays a puppeteer who is looking for his missing son and, in the process, builds and befriends a “monster” created by his son.

Eric it feels like a great show with a very different kind of story and tone for a crime thriller. After seeing this trailer, I can’t wait to see this show!

The series is set in the 1970s and follows Vincent, “a New York puppeteer who is pressured by the producers of the children’s TV show Good Day Sunshine to boost flagging ratings.

“His teammates start encouraging him to come up with a new character and new material that older viewers will enjoy, but hot-headed Vincent isn’t so keen on implementing the changes.

“Seeing his father’s struggle, Vincent’s nine-year-old son Edgar (Ivan Morris Howe), takes on the responsibility of designing a new puppet: a furry creature with horns, a pink nose and blue and white fur named Eric.

“When Edgar mysteriously disappears one day, an increasingly unstable Vincent begins to lose touch with reality and becomes convinced that if he lets Eric, who he can now see and talk to, debut on the show, the lost boy will come home.

“As Vincent’s progressively destructive behavior alienates his family, his co-workers, and the detectives who try to help him, it is Eric, a delusion of necessity, who becomes his only ally.”

The series was created by Abi Morgan (The Iron Lady AND Shame) and is also the protagonist Ozarks‘S McKinley Belcher III, Walking Dead‘S Dan FoglerAND Transparent’S Gaby Hoffmann.

The series debuts on Netflix on May 30.
