It’s always a tricky situation when properties come together, like Marvel and Sony, or Marvel and Fox. We’ve had some crossovers and some takeovers over the years, and that’s caused some characters to double or crossover, but one difficulty is when an actor has played two different roles in separate properties, and their worlds collide.
This is happening as Deadpool joins the MCU with his third film, Deadpool and Wolverine. In Deadpool 2, Josh Brolin played the character of Cable, but Brolin is also known as the MCU’s most formidable villain to date, Thanos, who was finally defeated in Avengers: Endgame.
It will not appear (that we know of). Deadpool and Wolverineand its established ties to the MCU could be the reason why.
He addressed the situation in a recent interview with The Playlist’s Bingeworthy TV podcast, where it was mentioned that Brolin is listed as a “voice” on the film’s IMDb page, so he must be in the film, and the actor jokingly responded: “Is that ME? Yesssss!
“I AS “I wanted to be in that movie,” he laughed, suggesting that Marvel Studios secrets never really revealed what the plan was or why it wasn’t part of the third film.
He went on to explain the study’s mysterious inner workings:
“[Marvel] it’s a more complex maze than “Outer Range” will ever be, my friend. And I’ll never know where it went or what it is or what I’m involved in or what I’m not involved in: the MCU is involved now. Cable was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed playing that role. It was very funny.”
Brolin, however, didn’t seem to hold a grudge against anyone involved, saying he’s a big Jackman fan and apparently excited about the film, despite missing the third episode.
“Ugo [Jackman], I am absolutely in love with it. I know Ryan [Reynolds] now, and I’ve met Hugh a couple of times, and I think when he did “Logan” – forget it! I mean, Scott Frank, who wrote it, is a good friend of mine and I just think about the meeting [these characters] it’s just fantastic. And Hugh, I don’t know how old Hugh is now: he’s 56, 57? I mean, seriously, the guy doesn’t age. So yes. I’m a big fan of him.”
It might be difficult to bring Brolin back as a different character in the MCU. However, he seems very different from Thanos. He’s not purple and has a normal chin, and if there was ever a movie to make the transition, he would absolutely be Deadpool!
The Merc with the Mouth could make a joke and ease the tension, and everyone could just move on. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see, as it’s entirely possible that Brolin is in the movie and was just being good.
Deadpool and Wolverine will be released in theaters this summer, on July 26th.
