Alfred Molina reflects on playing Doc Ock in SPIDER-MAN 2 and says it ‘completely changed my life’

AS Sam Raimi’S Spider-Man 2 celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, Alfredo Molina reflected on playing Doc Ock in the film and how the role changed his life.

First of all yes… Spider-Man 2 he’s 20 years old! He is so crazy to me! It’s one of those films that I still remember seeing for the first time in the cinema, as if it were yesterday.

During an interview with Vanity Fair, Molina spoke about the experience of acting in the Marvel film and said: “Aside from the fact that it’s a lot of fun to play it, playing that part, in all honesty, completely changed my life. I want say, it’s done.”

He went on to explain, “It took everything not only to a different level, but to a whole other group of movie fans. There’s a group of fans who loved all the movies like chocolate AND Enchanted April AND Frida and all those movies, and now all of a sudden those people’s kids love Fred Molina because he plays Doc Ock.”

Molina went on to talk about being initially cast in the film and how surprised he was: “It was a big surprise to me, because it’s not the kind of film I imagined I was qualified for.

He continued: “You always think of these big action movies as [casting] physical types, and I’ve definitely never been like that.”

But in the end he was perfect in the role! He’s the best version of Doc Ock that was brought to life on the big screen, and it was so cool and crazy that he got to reprise his role years later in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Molina will most likely never play the character again, but he had a fantastic role as Doc Ock!
