It’s been six years since we last saw a new film from the director S. Craig Zahlerwho previously brought us Bone Tomahawk, Brawl in cell block 99AND Dragged across the concrete.
I have enjoyed his films and think he is an exceptional and talented director. It’s a shame we haven’t seen him accomplish anything in a while, but he has a couple of projects lined up!
The director offered an update on his blog, saying: “A number of articles have announced The large stone grill like my next photo, which is not entirely correct.
Zahler added, “I’m floating that script around as a possible fifth film, but I’ve made much more progress with another different original project to direct for my fourth — I’m negotiating deals to see if it becomes a reality.”
Then he added: “I will give more information about it when things are more certain. Keep looking here for the announcement of my next film.”
So, The Big Stone Grid is still in play and we know something about it. It’s a crime film that Zahler initially sold to Sony Pictures in the early 2010s with Michael Mann originally attached to direct.
After Mann went on to direct Blackhat, Pierre Morel (Taken) was attached briefly, but the film rights have now reverted to Zahler.
The film is described as “a sharp thriller in the vein of Seven and Marathon Man”. It follows “two decorated detectives who uncover a terrifying extortion ring operating in the secret underbelly of New York City.”
It will be interesting to see what his next film ends up being. At one point she was developing another western, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
