This is the trailer for a new documentary film about surfing called Trilogy: New Waveand follows three up-and-coming surf athletes.
Trilogy: New Wave stars Griffin Colapintowho is currently ranked first in the World Surf League; Ethan Ewing, who is currently ranked 2nd in the WSL; AND Seth Moniz on a dream worldwide quest for pristine waves in Indonesia, Peru, South Africa and Tahiti.
In the film, “As the pressures of head-to-head competition for the championship crown grow heavy, the three put aside fierce rivalries and discover how the power of friendship can unlock even greater success on and off the water.”
This film is the sequel to the 2007 surfing film Trilogyand a lot has changed in the sport since then as it is now more of a mainstream sport. Trilogy: New Wave examines this evolution of surfing through a new lens, offering an unexpected perspective on surfing’s present.
Being an avid surfer and fan of the sport, I’ve watched a lot of these types of documentaries, and this is one I couldn’t wait to see!
The film was directed by the sports photographer/producer Andrew Mackenzie. It will be released in select theaters and on VOD on September 13, 2024.
