Chris Hemsworth recently revealed how he discovered the evil character Warlord Demintus Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. He came by writing a diary as a character.
During a recent interview with Total Film, Hemsworth explained, “George suggested I journal the character, which I’d never done before.”
He added: “It was 2am one night. I was awake, I put pen to paper and started scribbling down thoughts and ideas like Dementus.
He continued: “I didn’t think much about it. I went to sleep, woke up, and was quite shocked by what came out of me in that half-asleep state. I went to rehearsal and showed George, and we both said, “That’s it.” This is the direction we need to go.”
The character is certainly very different from any character Hemsworth has played before, and he looks absolutely crazy! He’s going to be amazing as his whole arc unfolds.
Hemsworth also explained how Miller’s script appealed to him because of the deeper conflicts between Furiosa and Dementus, saying, “There was a great sense of continuity from what had been done before.”
“But what was exciting was that, in a lot of the dialogue, there was a sort of Shakespearean tone. It’s an epic story. You see real growth and change in characters, or death in others. You see the environments they live in collapse. But it also has some crazy action.”
In the film, “As the world fell apart, young Furiosa is kidnapped from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great horde of bikers led by the warlord Dementus.
“Crossing the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by Immortal Joe. As the two Tyrants fight for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she scrapes together the means to find her way home.”
Miller has already spoken about the film and revealed that the story takes place over the course of 15-18 years and that it leads directly to the events of Mad Max: Road Fury.
Miller continued, “It’s a different animal. It has many different positions. It’s an odyssey. No questions asked.” As for a possible appearance by Max Rockatansky himself, Miller said: “I won’t give too much away about it. All I’ll say is that Max is lurking in the background.”
The cast includes Anya Taylor-Gioia, Tom Burke, Angus Sampson, Nathan Jones, Daniel Webber, Lachy HulmeAND Quaden Bayles.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will be released in theaters on May 24, 2024.
