HBO has released the first trailer for Mindy KalingThe animated series inspired by Scooby-Doo Velma. As you know, the first season had quite a negative reaction from the audience due to the terrible quality of the show.
Audiences ended up hating the show, so the numbers were there for HBO to renew it for a second season. The series only has a 39% approval rating among critics and a 7% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Season 2 just feels like more of the same unfunny ridiculousness and the season will last ten episodes in total.
The series tells the origin story of Velma Dinkley and the Mystery Inc. gang. But I will say that the series is definitely set in an alternate universe because there is nothing in this show that captures the spirit of the original Scooby-Doo gang.
In Velma Season 2, “When an even scarier mystery grips Crystal Cove, Velma (Kaling) must find a way to balance her detective work with the demands of her newfound popularity before it’s too late.”
Meanwhile, “her faithful friends Daphne (Constance Wu)Norville (Sam Richardson) and Fred (Glenn Howerton) are powerless to help due to their own personal struggles and, worse yet… detention.”
