Johnathan Kent is Superman’s adoptive father who finds the superhero when he first crash-lands on Earth as a child in a Kryptonian spaceship in the fields of Kansas.
Pruitt Taylor Vince is a very distinctive character actor known for his intense performances and unique physical presence, characterized in particular by his nystagmus, which is a condition that causes his eyes to move involuntarily.
Vince has made a significant mark in both film and television appearing in projects such as Mississippi Burning, Natural Born Killers, Constantine, X-Files, Justified, Deadwood, The Mentalist, Heroesand more.
Vince’s ability to play complex and often problematic characters has earned him a solid reputation as a reliable supporting actor, and playing the role of Pa Kent is a very different type of role for him.
The role was previously played by Kevin Costner in Man of Steel and Glenn Ford in Richard Donner’s Superman.
Superman will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”

Superman will launch the cinematic portion of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters: Part 1. The theatrical release is scheduled for July 11, 2025.
