Nicolas Cage’s new survival horror thriller, ARCADIAN, was inspired by Disney’s Goofy

Nicolas Cage has a new survival horror thriller in theaters right now titled Arcadianand it turns out that the movie’s monster was inspired by the beloved Disney character Goofy.

During an interview with IGN, the director Ben Brewer he explained, “From the beginning, I had this idea of big nocturnal eyes and huge spaced teeth, teeth too big for the creature’s mouth.”

He continued: “Goofy, the Disney character, was a great inspiration,” and then said that the incentive came mostly from a childhood fear, which was the scene in A silly movie where Goofy’s son Max has a nightmare about turning into his father.

Brewer said, “That’s where the Goofy thing comes in because in that movie, that dream sequence… it’s terrifying. It’s got too much personality. We gave our creatures too much personality because it would be weird to people.”

In Arcadian“After a catastrophic event depopulates the world, a father and his two sons must survive their dystopian environment while being threatened by mysterious creatures that emerge at night.”

The story is set in the near future, where “normal life on Earth has been decimated. Paolo and his two sons, Tommaso and Giuseppe, live a half life: tranquility during the day and torment at night.

“Every night, after dark, they face the relentless attacks of a mysterious and violent evil. One day, when Thomas doesn’t return home before sunset, Paul must leave the safety of their fortified farmhouse to find him. A nightmarish battle ensues that forces the family to enact a desperate plan to survive.

The film is also the protagonist Jaeden Martell (IT), Maxwell Jenkins (Lost in space) AND Sadie in general (Destiny: the Winx saga).

RLJE Marco Ward extolled the film, saying, “Michael Nilon’s screenplay deftly balances between the compelling emotions of a creature and the hopeful heart at the center of Paul’s family, played to perfection by Cage, Martel, and Jenkins.”

I haven’t had a chance to see the movie yet, but I will soon! I couldn’t wait for this to arrive!
